The second Sedona Fly In is scheduled for April 22nd, 23rd and the 24th.  We will park in the same location as last year. West side of the airport between the terminal and the helo pads for the scenic tours. I have reserved 12 rooms (all single Kings) at the Sky Ranch Lodge of which 3 have been booked as of today.  You can contact the Lodge and book with Chris at group sales

1-928-282-6400/1-888-708-6400.  Tell her you are with the T18 group.  We are guaranteed these rooms 30 days in advance of our arrival and they require a 48 hour CNX notice.  The Lodge is a short 5 minute walk from our aircraft.  Tie down fees are $10/nite and I still need to verify that we get the local fuel discount.  Howard and Elaine Ginn are going to have their pineapple express motor home available as they did last year for us to use as a gathering point.  Howard and Elaine went above and beyond last year providing us with snacks, drinks and hot coffee.  I will make sure we help with securing snacks and pass the hat.  I will arrive on the morning of the 22nd  around 0930(L) to insure peace and domestic tranquility  and get everyone parked . My wife Sil is flying into PHX (first flight in from KSAN) on the morning of the 22nd  and will have a rental van for us to use during the stay.  If anyone else is flying into PHX commercially Sil can arrange to pick you up at Sky Harbor in the van if your arrival time is close to hers .  If you need a ride let me know so we can coordinate.

Schedule of Events :

Friday-AM arrivals.  Afternoon-Flights to the Winslow  Crater and the Grand Canyon or  you can go to town and sightsee.  We should have plenty of transportation to take you to town and pick you up.  If none of this sets you on fire you can check into the Lodge and take a nap before chow.  Evening chow will be somewhere in town…TBD.  Rest of the nite is yours.

Saturday-AM.  Muster at the Pineapple Express for coffee and briefings.  Flights again to the Crater and/ or the Canyon if there is enough interest.  Saturday afternoon is all yours !  If you care to book a ride on one of the Local Jeep tours there are 2 local outfits that can accommodate  you .  You need to check to see if they can pick you up at the Lodge.  Last year we had enough bodies that they came and picked us up and brought us home.  Be aware these tours are off road  and will shake your teeth loose !  Here are the 2 web sites for more

Sunday-AM.  Sleep in, grab breakfast chow at the Mesa Grill located at the airport,  coffee and rolls at the Ginn Express or just pre-flight and go. 

A heads up if you have not flown into Sedona before.  The winds can be erratic and gusty , especially in the afternoon.  Be aware of possible down drafts on final to either runway.  Other than that it is a great little airport, the scenery  is amazing  and there is lots to do !  Any questions please contact me at…

Welcome to the new T18.net (Again!)

Welcome to Version 3.0 of the Thorp online community! Over the past year or so I've become increasingly frustrated with the platform the "main site" was running on. As the new Thorp Supply business gets up and running the two sites will be closely integrated thus I wanted a new and consistant look and feel across both sites. I plan to add more rich content to this site in the near future so stay tuned.

Sedona Thorp Gathering 2015


The first Sedona fly-in (to my knowledge) is scheduled for April 17, 18, 19th 2015.

We are staying at the sky ranch lodge located right on the airport. I blocked off 10 “garden” rooms, of which 4 are left. They advertise a group rate, but that does not exist? If we need more rooms I’ll try and secure them at the “garden room” rate. If there are no more garden rooms then they have upgraded rooms for about $20.00 more per night. POC at the lodge is Jessica Shield. She can be reached at 1-888-708-6400 and tell her you are part of the thorp t-18 fly-in group. We have the block of rooms locked in from 19 Mar-17 Apr. There is a 48 hour cancellation policy. Spring time is the start of their max booking time so if you want a room at the lodge book early. The other hotels are in town down the hill and some of the rates are double that of the lodge!

Schedule of Events

1. Arrive sometime on Friday. I plan to be there around 1000 am on Friday. get everyone tied down and if we need a beverage run Fred Shinn the fly-in events coordinator said he would try and make some sort of transport available for the fizz pop run. I will have our tie down location available as the date gets closer. Fred says we get a 30 cent discount on fuel and tie down fees are ½ prices.

2. The lodge is within walking distance. The lodge has a van that might be available to transport us to the front door.

3. Right now I plan to have a lunch (around 1200 Friday) for Ken Knowles (pending) at the sunset grill that is located right on the field. After lunch you are on your own and the lodge has a van that runs into town.

4. Each day you are on your own for breakfast and plan to report for happy hour at the grill starting at 1500 to 1800.

5. Dinner at the grill is from 1600 to 2100 and a group dinner Friday and Saturday will probably start around 1800?

6. Saturday morning meet at the ac and talk fighter pilot stuff! 7. There is a rental car outfit on the field should we need one.
